Skipper and I, well, me mostly, planned an afternoon of horseback riding. Skipper…he's my horse. He's such a good horse. He runs when I want to run, trots when I want to trot, and walk when I want to walk. And, he can stop on a dime.
My mom said it would be okay. We went up to the gully where the river now runs dry and there are piñon trees everywhere. I like to go pick piñons. But that's another story.
We ran halfway to the gully and Skipper needed some water and there wasn't water anywhere! The river had run dry.
Finally, we walked, to save energy, to Mr. Fielders land where he had a trough. When we got there Skipper drank the trough dry.
Then it was time for me and Skipper to go home. Skipper happily trotted all the way home! We were both hungry and there was hay and oats for Skipper and a good roast dinner for me.
We had such a good day together, Skipper and I.
