FFfAW-The Old Man

He is an old man, his teeth gnarly and his hair unkept. He sits on his front porch smoking a pipe and after years of smoking his few teeth are yellowed.

Whenever I walk by I hold my breath and not step on any cracks in the sidewalk. If I stepped on the cracks I would be haunted by this scary old man.

My mom tells me there is nothing to be afraid of, he is just a harmless old man but my dreams tell me otherwise.

He is to be feared. After all, everyone is afraid of old age.

  1. As the missus and I are getting older, she’s always at me to live a healthy lifestyle. You can’t stop aging, but maybe you can live better longer. Then maybe you’re not so scary. 😉

  2. Who knows? Maybe it’s not just childish fear of old age. Perhaps there is something sinister about that old man. Maybe those aren’t dreams but visions… I liked this story a lot.

  3. I hope that as one reaches what ever passes for old age, one fears it less. But what I guess most people fear is a lose of independence. I am touching 70 but still mentally feel 21. Unfortunately it now takes me longer to fight off illness. This interesting story had me concerned that the child had seen something that worried him and that had become embedded in his psyche.

  4. Adults seem much older when we’re young, and some are just plain scarier than others. This old man even looks scary 😛

I want to live to be very old…and as healthy as possible.

I would love to read your thoughts...
