FFfAW-Our Boat Ride

Matthew and I decided to go to the Mississippi River and take a boat ride up the Mississippi. We were so excited about it and decided to leave early in the morning.

When we got there the first thing we did was stand in line to buy tickets. Someone behind us said,

“Kids in love make me sick.”

We couldn't believe our ears, and decided not to respond to that hateful statement.

While on the boat we saw this person again and she came up to us and apologized and told us,

“When I was a kid, I was in love but after about six months he left me for another girl. I have never been able to get over that.”

We told her how sorry we were (and we truly were) but we were there to take a boat ride.

Yes, we were kids in love and we had a blast on the boat ride. We hope she did too.

  1. She sounds somewhat bitter about her experience. Shame she feels the need to force it on strangers, her later apology notwithstanding. Your young couple were very good about it!

  2. I think the person that made that statement about the young couple was suddenly reminded of her experience and relived the sudden pain and heartache . Sometimes you speak out before you realize it and she did recover from the shock and did the right thing in apologizing to the young couple. Hopefully, the young couple will have a happy life together and not have to endure the kind of pain the stranger did. A wonderful story, Joy. Shows compassion from all.

  3. I’m impressed by the kids’ ability to remain positive. I hope the older woman manages to move on from her youthful heartbreak. It’s never too late to fall in love again! A lovely story PJ. πŸ™‚

  4. Why is it that we never get over our first love? Given that she was 16 I’m guessing it was her first love, but jeez keep it to yourself lady! hee hee…she needs to find someone to sweep her off her feet and make her forget completely about her first love!! Fun story PJ! πŸ™‚

  5. The older woman sounds a sad character, but she shouldn’t take her own disappointments in life out on other people. I’m glad the young couple still managed to have a lovely day. Sweet story, PJ.

I would love to read your thoughts...
