Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practioner

Roger Shipp, author of the blog, “It's All in Finding the Right Words,” has started a new flash fiction writing challenge, titled, “Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practioner.” Everyone is invited to participate in this challenge. For more information, click HERE.

Roger provides us with the first sentence or part of the first sentence, a photo prompt, and approximatey 100-200 words with which we build our stories. The first partial sentence Roger furnished us with is, “Of all the places I thought I would end up on New Year's Eve…”This is my submission for this challenge:

β€œOf all the places I thought I would end up on New Year’s Eve certainly wasn't at the Mile High Bowling Alley!” Macy threw her bowling shoes on the floor and plopped down on the bench to put them on. She was noticeably irritated that Andy had brought her to a bowling alley for their New Year's Eve celebration.

“I thought you loved to bowl?” Andy replied in a higher than normal voice.

“Well, I do like to bowl but not as a celebration to a brand new year!”

Andy irritably retorted, “We are here so try and make the most of it.”

Macy walked up to the alley with her bowling ball at ready and tossed the ball down the alley toward the pins. STRIKE!

She turned around and smiled at Andy and started laughing, “I guess I'm glad we came here after all because I'm going to cream you!” (137)

  1. It’s probably a good thing she made a STRIKE the first time because it gives her some hope of knocking him off his game! She will probably really enjoy the evening. At least it will be a year she won’t forget. Nice job, Joy. πŸ™‚

  2. Thank you soooo much for your early entry. I was having a lot of problems with my “BLUE FROG” … but it is up and running. I would love it if you could repost your story using the InLinkz.

  3. I would have “creamed” him too! LOL! Spending New Year’s eve in a bowling alley is so unromantic. No flowers or candle light dinner…she must be very disappointed πŸ˜€ Great story πŸ˜€

  4. Thanks for letting me know about the new flash fiction. I just was reading your daily that I get and found out. Your story was cute. I’d stop dating someone who took me bowling for NY.:)

    • LOL! I probably would have fun bowling – but that’s just me. Now if I were 20 years younger I probably would be very upset!! You’re welcome about letting you know about the new flash fiction challenge. I had “just” found out about it myself and was trying to help Roger out in getting people to participate. Roger is a nice guy.

  5. So there! That was a fun read PJ and creative too!! Wishing you a very Happy New Year…here’s to 2016 and many, many more stories to share!! xoxo ((HUGS!!))

    • I was wondering where you were! Here’s to another great year 2016! We will make it our best year so far. Many ((HUGS!!)) your way to have a good night’s sleep and sweet dreams! xoxo

          • LOL! Watching the ball drop wasn’t anything new?? Hahaha!! I haven’t ever watched it drop and I really wanted (for some reason) wanted to watch it drop this year. For some reason, the channel I was watching didn’t show the ball dropping. (!?!) Happy New Year Deb!!! xoxox

          • It was on ABC, jot that down for next year…LOL!!! I’ll try to keep you up next year too…that will be one of our resolutions…hee hee xo

          • That is sad that they only let one television station film the ball dropping! Yes, please keep me up next year to see it! LOL! That will be one of our new year’s resolutions.

  6. Aww, consider he brought her to a bowling alley for new year, he better let her “cream him “. Nice choice of words Pj. I sure wouldn’t want to spend new year bowling πŸ˜„

I would love to read your thoughts...
