Five Photos – Five Stories

Walking through the River Walk Park with my ever faithful companion, Bria, we ran into this beauty.

Geese seem so regal to me. They don’t question what their purpose in life is. Nor do they complain about the water being too cold. They simply be exactly who it is they were made to be, geese. On this day, their purpose was to spend time enjoying the Animas River at the River Walk Park and enjoying the food I threw to them.

Soon, their very essence will lift them up to spread their wings to fly to the next leg of their journey. I wish them a safe and pleasant flight. Still, I can’t help but wonder. Will they remember me?

My thank you to Snow’s Fissures and Fractures for nominating me to this special Five Photos Five Stories challenge. I am to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story, either fiction or non-fiction, to the photo each day. Each day, I am to select one person and nominate them to participate in this great challenge. Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, as it is not mandatory.

Today, I would like to nominate Ady, author of the blog, Round World N Me.

  1. I love the light on the water in your photo and yes, the goose looks very regal. Geese are strange birds. Many farmers in the past would keep them to act as guard dogs – or rather, guard geese. They can be quite vicious when they’re diturbed and create a great racket as well. They can also deliver a painful peck. But your goose looks to be very contented. Nice post, PJ.

      • They are beautiful, and their flight pattern is wonderful – great to see them overhead. I’m losing track of all the challenges you do, PJ. They must keep you very busy. I’m sure you enjoy them all, though. πŸ™‚

        • I have participated in a lot of challenges but I have had to back away from some as it was getting to be too much. I had to figure out which ones I could continue participating in and which ones I needed to drop. I enjoyed the “Pet Share” challenge but I only have one pet and not that many ways to take pictures of her. lol! The photo prompts I really enjoy but haven’t been able to get out this winter and take nice photos, so I chose only one or two of those. I was nominated to participate in a 5 day challenge recently, but that isn’t on-going. It is only for 5 days (or I could not have accepted it).

          • They’re all good fun, but take care not to overdo things. I know how tired you were yesterday. You’re right about this one only being five days. That should be ‘doable’ for you. πŸ™‚

  2. Lovely pic, Joy, and I also love geese. There is a factory in Glasgow that has them on the premises at night to ward off burglars but it used to break my heart because they must be in confinement on the factory premises and some have probably never seen water

  3. Good stuff PJ! But… How do we know that geese don’t consider their existence or have expectations??? πŸ™‚ Maybe we just can’t communicate with them to know. … Geese are so smart in the way they fly in formation and take turns giving the lead a break and how when one gets hurt another stays back with them. Just saying LOL!

  4. Beautiful picture…love the bokeh from the water’s reflection. I have a healthy respect/fear of geese. The other day my dad and I were down at the lake. We watched a goose walk calmly up to a man and was all gentle with him (I got a pic of it :-)). The next second it was biting another man in the crotch and chasing the man’s girlfriend while honking away. (Didn’t get a pic of that because they were all running my way! lol) But they are beautiful to look at.

I would love to read your thoughts...
