Final Trio

The Daily Post Prompt: Final Trio – December 20, 2014

For our final trio prompt of the year, write about any topic you wish, but make sure your post features a bookcase, something cracked, and a song you love.

Our Christmas tree this year was blue spruce and filled our living room with heavenly smells of a pine forest. Mom had decorated the tree with beautiful blinking lights and hundreds of bright glass ornaments. It looked amazing.

As we were all gaping at the tree and listening to Silent Night, something flew across our line of vision. It happened so fast we hardly knew what was happening.

Jingles, the family cat, had jumped from the antique bookshelf onto the Christmas tree in an attempt to kill one of the twinkling lights or ornaments. The tree came crashing to the floor.

Jingles ran out of the room in terror. My mom broke out into tears. I watched in horror. And my dad picked up the tree to try and right it again.

The lights were still blinking, the angel had remained on the top but most of the ornaments were either cracked or broken.

My dad, with his wit and humor, tried to save the day, “Look at it this way honey, you get to buy new ornaments.”

You know what is really funny? Mom laughed.
