Cold Sore Blues!

It is Cold Sore Weather!

How do you get rid of cold sores? Or are you one of the lucky few that never gets any?

Looking through the internet for cold sore cures I came across various methods of supposed cures: Vanilla Extract, Toothpaste mixed with Rubbing Alcohol & Salt, Hydrogen Peroxide, Witch Hazel, Coconut Oil, L-Lysine Tabs, Vicks Vapor Rub, Essential Oils, Campho-Phenique and many others that I haven’t mentioned.

My cure for cold sores? Isopropyl Alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol).

I have a cold sore trying to break out which I have been battling with heavy doses of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol dabbed on with a cotton swab. This has always worked before, as long as I got to it quick enough. The cold sore is still trying to break out.

Today I got out the big guns. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol! Yep! It stings a little more but seems to be doing the job. At least it hasn’t quite surfaced to a full-blown cold sore. I feel positive that by this time tomorrow it will be gone.

And I will have won the battle of the cold sore blues.

  1. I am one of the lucky ones who does not get cold sores. My hubbie does, though. I’ve heard one treatment to relieve symptoms is to apply baking soda or cream of tartar (white powder form) onto the sore; helps dry it up. Sorry for the pain and hope you can find some relief 🙂

  2. My husband gets them when he’s stressed out. He says “they have their own heartbeat.” i will tell him about the alcohol solution.

  3. Personally, I have very sensitive lips which create a similar drama as that of a cold sore. They dry out, swell and bleed. For now, I have just been putting my doctor-recommended moisture cream but it doesnt help once they r all dry. It only helps to prevent the drying. Vaseline is my next resort to lock in moisture but thas pretty much it.

  4. I am also one of the lucky ones who has never had a cold sore, but my daughters get them frequently. I’ll have to tell them of your treatment.

  5. I am not sure about cold sores, but chapped lips are quite a problem. All sorts of lip balms work for some time but not forever ! Brrr… why so much cold !

    • I am sorry to hear about your chapped lips problems. That has to be as bad as cold sores. I don’t know if this pertains to your area, but in my area, when I was drinking our city water, my fingers would dry out and crack around my nails and were painful and sore. No amount of moisture would help them. Finally, I started drinking nothing but bottled water and my fingers stopped splitting open. I guess it was caused by all the chemicals that are in our drinking water now.

      • Shocking !!!!! I never thought it like that.Even water can cause dryness! What a paradox !The water is hard here !! Luckily,no such problem like that till now …

        • I know, it is shocking. Here they have to put so many chemicals in it, such as chlorine, and other chemicals to make it safe to drink. Chlorine is what dries out my skin. If you have hard water, then I suggest you start drinking only bottled water and see if that helps your chapped lips. I have a feeling it will.

I would love to read your thoughts...
