Writing 101 – Day 14: To Whom it May Concern

To Whom it May Concern:

The word “confession” is stalking me. Let me explain.

My assignment for Writing 101 is to go to the nearest book and open it up to page 29 and the word that jumps out at you will be the word you will be having, sort of, a relationship with in this assignment.

Because I didn't want to have a relationship with Confession, I went to another book and opened it up to page 29. There he was again! CONFESSION. What the hell? This word is stalking me!

Please tell me why the word Confession is stalking me? Confession is already married to Guilt.

Is there ever any rest from my conscience? No doubt he will continue to goad me until I have confessed all of my deeds which continue to trouble me. Is he haunting me because he knows how hard it is for me to open up publicly? He must gloat over my shame and inner turmoil or he would not be stalking me.
I'm pleading with you, make him return to Guilt, to live happily ever after, and leave me the hell alone.

My apologies for making this so short, but I'm on the run….

    • Thank you for reading and commenting on my post. I did read your post and I am assuming you are writing the letter to an educational system? I felt it was very good. There is one typo that seemed to stick out to me, other than that – Great!

  1. All of us have likely heard the maxim, “Confession is good for the soul.” It’s an old Scottish proverb but there is a word missing. The proverb actually reads, “Open confession is good for the soul.” And it doesn’t get more open than here. LOL
I loved the way you put so much into that short letter “To Whom It May Concern”
And from experience “confession” is a good thing. It releases from guilt and brings a fresh freedom. Don’t run from it, embrace it. Would love to see you write a follow up of your journey with “Confession”. Looks like he has decided to keep you company for awhile. 🙂

    • Thank you for your comment! I appreciate you reading and commenting. It was written 1/2 in fun and 1/2 in truth. I completely agree with you about Confession. I do plan on doing something more in the future. Haven’t decided what yet. Thanks!

  2. No reason to feel guilty and nothing to hide behind. Being honest and authentic is the best for writing even if you are using another person to tell your story. You better listen, or confession will chase you all around! LOL

    • I agree with you! But it seems whenever I try to write about those things my writing feels “whiney” and “Bleeding Heart” and I am trying to learn how to write so it doesn’t come off that way. So, hopefully with this class and 201 I will be able to do it. For now, I have a reprieve! Haha!

I would love to read your thoughts...
